Whirlpool Cabrio wash tub?
« on: May 30, 2016, 04:15:07 PM »
Evening Gents, and Happy Memorial Day!

A big thank you to those that have put up youtube videos and threads regarding changing out the bearings and shaft of a top loader Cabrio...

that being said, my project is at a halt. I am at the point to reinstall my tub and install my new hub, problem being, the tub seems to sit rather low/or the shaft is still too high. Meaning, when the tub is placed back into the washer and the shaft is protruding through, the hub is then placed but cannot bottom out aginst the wash tub. instead it bottoms out on the shaft lip just below the threads. Leaving about a 1/4-1/2" of gap. As i screwed the screws in place that retained the larger hub, the TUB lifted a bit.

I consider myself to be very mechanically inclined feel that I did not miss any steps. I have all the appropriate tools and parts...and this is just driving me nuts.. ive searched and seems that no one has a video or ran into this particular problem..

Whirlpool Cabrio PN  WTW6600SW2

thanks,

Jon.

Shaft may not be pressed in FULLY. The black seal you glue in must sit completely flush with outer tub.

i just re-verified that the top bearing is seated, followed by the shaft. I also had to pull the tub seal (which was also fully seated). I tried re-installing the old shaft and it is doing the same thing. both shafts are identical. Anyway, Re-installed new shaft and bottom bearing with spacer and washer...

placed the shaft back onto the top bearing...then before adding the top seal, i test-fit the tub and the shaft is still too tall?

WTH..?? Im baffled...

i guess to simplify my question,

When installing the Driver hub to the shaft and mating the outer hub to the Tub/basket case by the 6 screws, should the tub pull up a bit?

Right now if I drop in the outer hub, it does not sit flush with the floor of the Tub. It hovers about a 1/4" or so.

this is the only thing stopping me from completing my repair...

:( :bonk:

You need to spray, clean out the inside of that tub and make sure the inner plastic , splinned part moves up and down freely.

this tub floats up when water is added. To be able to agitate.

Basket hub. Link provided may not be for your model, but gives you a picture idea.
