Whirlpool washer can not agitate but can spin and drain water

Hi, everyone,

I have a Whirlpool washer, the model is LXR9245E. The problem right now is after fill the water, it can not agitate. I only heard the timer sound but did not hear any motor sound at all. But it can spin and drain the water out if I change the timer to spin cycle.

I checked the coupler and it looks fine and I tried to check the motor resistance. The resistance between the black and yellow wire is 8.1 ohm. From the internet, it said this is the start windings and the normal value should be 4 - 7 ohms. Other resistance like high speed windings and low speed windings seems to be in the normal range.

Do you think I got a bad motor or what could be the possible problem?

With the washer turned on in the agitation cycle carefully wiggle the plug and wire harness that goes to the motor and see if the motor kicks in.

Also wiggle the timer knob and the wire harness plug that goes into the timer.

You may just have a bad connection at one of these places.

If you can wiggle the timer knob and make the motor start during the agitation cycle you will need to replace the timer.

Does the motor shaft turn easy? Does it growl?

I can turn the motor both ways easily. But I hear some kind of ticking noise (don't know how to describe) when I turned it in one direction. But it is not big noise, thanks.
