Kenmore dryer NO HEAT
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:23:55 PM »
I have a kenmore dryer. I bought it in 2001 and it worked flawless until 2008.  At that point it stoped working and I replaced the igniter guessing, that wasn't it. LOL. I then tested the thermostats and thermal breaker. Breaker had blown. Replaced all 3. Themostats and Themal breaker. Fixed. Then 3 months later it would light the igniter and had gas smell but no flame.  I replaced thermostats and flame sensor. Fixed.

Now to 2010. It has only been 1 and a 1/2 years and now no flame again. Igniter glows, and got flame on 2 starts. Now nothing. If you keep trying it will light, but not consistantly. I am going to test all thermostats and flame sensor in the morning and shall report, but was wondering if the gas valve or coils would be the next place to go. I have vertual replaced everthing belts and all in the last 2 years. And got 8 years out of them previously. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Mark
PS. coils are 60 sum dollars at sears parts center.

Them coils heat up and quit when they get some age on em. Replace em

Part # 279834 Coil Kit for Dryer Gas Valve (2 Coils, New Style), AP3094251

Coils installed. Tested only slightly different then old ones. Ohms tested all themostats, thermal swithces, radiant switch. All had about 1 ohm, except for 1 thermostat. It has 4 wires, 1 pair had 1 ohm, the other had I think like 600 ohms.
Any way with the new coils, lit right up, after a few start and stops, had a few missfires (igniter lit but no flame.) I did how ever have the gas smell like when the radiant sensor failed. Seems if you wait a minute or so between start stops, Lights everytime.
Thanks for the great advice. Let me know if you think the 4 pin/plug thermostat is an issue or if I should still consider radiant sensor?

ran full cycle of more dry. Still won't light everytime. 3 or for trys. It lights igniter, then goes out no flame. strong odor of natural gas in dryer. I run 2 minutes on air only to suck out gas. Then wait 30 seconds to a minute and try again. 3 to 4 tries usually gets it to flame up. Then all is good.
I am gonna replace the radiant sensor tomorrow/today?
That solved this problem last time.
Could bad gas valve coils have caused the radiant sensor to prematurely fail? It is only 18 months old?
Thanks again.

Correct.
It can glow and still be too low to energize the coils to open the valve.

Dryer Gas Valve Coils don't rely on series amperage.

The Flame Sensor Switch opens when it gets hot enough, letting the Gas Valve Coils to energize.

Ignitor will either work or not (cracked).

In other words it can glow but not kill the flame sensor/detector Jumpy?
