LG Gas Dryer - Heat comes on for a few seconds and shuts down

Hi everyone....this is my first post....I have a LG5932 gas dryer with the same exact problem the mad scientis had......I noticed all the good advice but did not get the final outcome of what the problem was....any suggestions ?? Thanks....Joe

The very first thing to inspect---would be the *entire* dryer exhaust vent system from the rear of the dryer to the outside vent hood.

If the venting is longer than eight feet length AND snakes thru the walls within the home---this is a candidate for a professional duct cleaning company.

Most LG gas dryer burner short-cycling is due to problems with venting---either too long or too many 90 degree turns and/or a partially or fully restricted vent.

The venting is clean and proper lenght....that is not the problem....thanks Joe

The next step would be to test the MAIN BOARD function at the gas valve coils.

Both coils should be getting 90 volts DC---if the voltage cuts out or drops---replace the MAIN BOARD.


I'm assuming that the gas burner DOES ignite and then goes out...

It's worth noting that many of my customers were adamantly certain that their dryer vent was **CLEAR** and that it CANNOT be a factor.

Basically---THE DRYER IS AT FAULT! Fix it!

Time & again--the vent was the culprit.
This is especially so in vents that are buried in the walls of the home which makes it IMPOSSIBLE for inspection without a *manometer* or cable-camera.

Disconnecting the vent at the rear of the dryer and running a small load of laundry is a quick method of ruling out the vent system.
Remember---this is a GAS dryer---so leaving the vent disconnected is NOT healthy.

I have seen brand new exhaust vents in brand new homes cause the burner to short-cycle. The exhaust vent may be completely CLEAR but due to the number of turns & length---has too much back-pressure.

The WATER COLUMN pressure that is acceptable is listed in the literature that comes with the dryer (installation manual).

Hi John63.....the vent is definitly clear and yes the dryer fires for about 10 seconds and goes out. I went to a local parts store and the guy seems to think it is the coils.....I only have a continuity meter and can't check the coils like you said....I will see If I could borrow one....thanks.....

Yes.

Observe the IGNITOR & BURNER functions from the top of the dryer with the top cover removed.

An orange glow indicates that the IGNITOR is working.

A *whoosh* and then a blue glow indicates that the BURNER has ignited gas.

not sure on this model of dryer, but most ignitors also use it as flame retification, it may glow but doesnt send necessary microamps back to say we have true burner ignition, sounds like this may be problem.

Not in dryers---in ovens,yes.
