lg steam washer no water
« on: May 06, 2010, 03:58:22 PM »
lg WM2487HRM steam washer not getting any water, of course i checked the hoses first, then i checked the inlet valves all fine there, so i turned the machine on and load sensor works but when it should start filling the recirc pump grinds and nothing elese. so then i checked the filter after not sucessfully getting it to drain would only spin but not drain from the hose next to the filter. so i checked the filter nothing in it except some soap goo. put it back in and tried again and on sanitize it worked but no other cycle. so then i  checked the pump itself nothing in it. so im thinking replace the recirc pump. what do you think?

No water enters the washer during the fill cycle?

This usually triggers an "IE" error.

Check the water fill hoses--make sure that the hoses are not aftermarket FLOODCHECK/FLOODSAFE hoses.
If so--remove those hoses and install either the OEM hoses or standard rubber hoses.
FLOODCHECK/SAFE hoses often malfunction and are not worth it.

Is the DRAIN MOTOR or RECIRCULATION MOTOR actually "grinding" or humming?

Post the serial number...

TEST Water Valve Functions:

1) Press/hold SPIN SPEED & SOIL LEVEL buttons and then press POWER   button.

Wait for the door to lock (single click sound)

2) Press START button (4) times at one second intervals--this will activate the PRE-WASH VALVE.

3) Press POWER button a 5th time--MAIN WASH VALVE.

4) Press 6th time--HOT WATER VALVE test

5) Press for 7th time--STEAM VALVE test.

6) Press 8th time--BLEACH VALVE test.

If the RECIRCULATION PUMP MOTOR is grinding---this is usually going to be noticeable only at certain times during the cycle.

If so---the most likely cause of this noise---is a small piece of debris such as a shirt button.
Remove the motor from the pump housing & inspect for debris.

NOTE: This motor is on the right side of the pump housing (if you're standing in front of the washer).

i did actually take that motor out to check it, found nothing in it. the customer did say she got an error but didnt remember what it was cuz she didnt realize it was an error code, but anyway like i said when you hit the start button it will do the load sensing then it just grinds from the recirc pump.and thats it. the only time i got any water to enter was after i checked the filter in between the pumps and it was only on sanitize cycle.and nothing after.

You should be able to call up the last error code through diagnostics.

<<<when you hit the start button it will do the load sensing then it just grinds from the recirc pump.and thats it>>>

****************

Let us know when you have possession of the set.

I'm inclined to think that this may be failing HALL EFFECT SENSOR.

The RECIRCULATION MOTOR is not used at all--- when the START button is pressed.

Sometimes when the HALL EFFECT SENSOR fails--the DRIVE MOTOR (main motor) will growl like a vicious animal and/or sound metallic.

Newer HALL SENSORs will not do this...

Look under the black goopy stuff for broken wires.

Clarification:

Only the older LG dishwashers with *tar-like* thermal & sound insulation had potential broken wires---inside of the door....

This model LG washer does*not* store error messages.

If there's a fault--it'll display an error when the washer is used or during a test mode.

the grinding is comming from the front of the washer on the right of the filter door, but i will run diagnostic when i pick it up and let you know what it comes up with. would prefer it to be the hall sensor, so lets cross our fingers.

Wait for the door to lock (single click sound)

2) Press START button (4) times at one second intervals--this will activate the PRE-WASH VALVE.

5) Press for 7th time--STEAM VALVE test.

Based on that information---it does appear the RECIRCULATION MOTOR may be failing.

Do let us know what you find...
