Kenmore washer series 80 just stopped
« on: May 06, 2010, 08:59:48 AM »
I bought this washer in November 2004.  Never had a problem until today.  I put towels in it, turned it on and it filled with water.  Then it stopped.  I have verified the outlet is working.  I have tried different cycles but nothing happens.  No sound, no clicking.  Nothing.  Suggestions?

Thank you.

uh, wow.  Is there a way to check that switch without taking the entire thing apart like the video shows?  The thing is full of water.

Flip up the controls and unplug the lid switch connection. Check it for continuity. Their are 3 wires. One is green and connects to the chassis. The other 2 are live. You can bypass the lid switch between those 2 live wires for testing only.

Unplug the machine.
Remove the 2 lid switch screws under the lid.
Pull the lid switch out into the tub area.
Cut the 2 wires. Strip the ends of the wires and nut them together.
Plug the machine in and set to spin to test the operation.
If it works correctly, replace the lid switch.
If not, replace the lid switch and continue diagnosis.

Yes replace the lid switch with a new one. Do not leave it bypassed as it would be dangerous to run the washer without a lid switch.

I looked up your model number and found that it uses lid switch # 3949238.

It would not harm the washer to leave it jumped out but it could pose a problem for unattended children. I had to take momma to the hospital by the way. Just now got back. They gave her an epidural to relieve a pinched nerve. Sorry I couldn't get right back to ya. At least you can do some clothes. Just keep the children and any braindead folk away from the washer till you change that lid switch.
