GE SxS refrigerator tube in door plugged
« on: April 27, 2010, 05:25:09 AM »
I have a GE side by side - Model GSL25QGPJBS -  The problem is that I cant dispense water in door.    Ice works fine.    Checked valve,  dispensing water.    Resevoir is OK<   I took off coupling joining line going into door - getting water to there.     My hunch is maybe our good friends at GE may have forgot or under insulated the inside of door liner.   Any suggestions short of a new door at close to 500 bucks??????   thanks ahead of time.

By the way,    I tried to run steam into both ends of line,   and couldn't free it.

Hey AJ looks like GE found us. ;)

I would love to see if my team can help you find a resolution to the problem.

If you really want to help why not just post the resolution here instead of posting a canned response like you do on your GE facebook page?

I'm impressed that GE appliances even has an "e-response" team.

However--I agree that participating on this forum in an open and public fashion is the best approach unless the type of repair potentially exposes the manufacturer to REAL and unnecessary liability.

I didn't mention upon checking refrigerator,  the liner does not come out.    The only part available is the whole door.   You wonder what they are thiniking when they design these products.   I appreciate the info about the water,   however,   if it froze once it will probably freeze again I would guess.    I have to go back to the house for a part on the washer so I might try that.   Thanks for the help so far.

This is a very common problem with GE Side by sides.  So common that they made this part here That is a heater kit with detailed instructions for your refrigerator on how to install it.   One thing i have found is that when i take the dispenser out, and start installing the kit, i use a hair dryer for about 5 minutes or so and blast hot air onto the waterline in the door, just helps speed up the process. You'll see in the instructions it may take up to 48 hours for water to start flowing again.
