Kenmore 80 series washer will not spin
« on: April 24, 2010, 09:31:58 AM »
I have a Kenmore 80 series washer. The washer will go through the whole cycle but will not spin with even a small load in. If I remove the clothes and run a spin cycle with it empty it works fine. any ideas?

The clutch is probably slipping either because it is worn or the transmission is leaking oil onto it.

Do you have oil on the body? Could be a seal in the tranny cover. One thing about it this washer sure is easy to repair.

Did you check the coupling? If it is partially stripped it might slip with a load.
If all of that is good you might want to remove the tranny cover and take a looksee at the main drive gear. It might be worn smooth. Click on pic to enlarge

Mr Fixit hit it dead-on..replace the clutch kit. Comes with brake release cam as well. More on replacing the clutch here.
