Sony receiver home theater

Our Sony Home Theater receiver now goes into "PROTECT" mode every time it is turned on.
I tried it on a GFCI circuit but it still won't work.
Suggestions?
Is it dead?

Ive got almost the same one. Youve got a short in one of your speaker wires or in one of your speakersManual

It even goes into protect with no speaker or speaker wires attached?
