Service Rates

Hello  I have a question for anyone in the Manager field.  What is the going rate to pay  a Service Tech that does Whirlpool and Maytag Appliance's  Percentage of service call and labor time is what I am looking for. Thank's for any help you may give me.

Pricing and payroll are items that should depend on your local economy, and the cost of doing business. You CAN look at national averages as a guideline, but the biggest factor should be your personal business costs. I am personally considering adding a tech to my team at 60% to 75%.

Are you providing the vehicle?,gas?,insurance? I do subcontracting and get 50 %(labor only as percentage on parts is illegal) plus milage. I do use my own truck and they supply parts or restock parts on my truck when used.I can refuse or ask for more if too far away. Most calls are within my normal area and I can set them between my calls so works out very well.They are thrilled to have an experienced Tech.

how big is your area? we have 50 miles service area. with different rates.

basic call $76.50 plus fuel $2.50 and for 15 mins. then $72 hr

You can't get a percentage of parts in pay. This would encourage techs to change unneeded parts to get more money. I am about the same in service area and area rates change as milage increases but we do not charge for gas,that is part of the Service call. I include 15 minutes time with the call and then 60/ hr or 15 for every 15 Min's. I am the lowest in my area, but have had customers and many referrals for 30 years so it all balances out. Most of my calls are within 10 miles, my service charge is $65.00. It goes up with milage out up to $90.00 Even higher up to $150.00 for my specialty of Antique gas stove repairs, and 80-100 per hour after the first 15.There are only 2 of us north of Golden Gate that do these. A very good specialty.

We get 40% of labor... but I have see other companys pay 10% of parts and 50% of labor or also 25% of total bill paid to the techs...

How old of a stove do you raise your price... 1980 GE ? or 1970 GM/fridgaire or 1960 flair....
I like to work on the older ones a really challange for me.

I would think the cost of living in northern CA would be higher then Oregon....

It is but for some reason the service rates have not changed much. I work on the 1930's 40's and 1950's gas ranges. Yes a Frigidare Flair is old enough as no one else will touch them. Keep my info handy as I have a lot of part replacement numbers for items no longer avail. The average priced home where I am is $350,000 yet no one wants to spend more than $75.00 on an appliance repair. GO FIGURE!

Some tech in our area will not even work on early 80s ranges...would you have a speed heat switch for a flair? I will PM you my email address.

That % of parts may be CA labor law. Much tougher there...

Just change it over to a 220 burner & switch, rewire and leave out the transformer. Much easier to do and parts are available at most parts companies. I use W L May in Portland & Sacramento CA. for all my parts. Get a 5500-225 if reversed rotation and a 220v 6" burner.
