Whirlpool water dispenser stops after 1 or 2 glasses
« on: April 15, 2010, 10:05:08 PM »
My internal water dispenser stops working after a glass or two, then just buzzes.  The ice maker always works.  Does the same valve control both?  I can't find a service manual online.  How do I troubleshoot the problem?  If it's the valve, can it be replaced easily?

The water and ice maker combo valve has separate solenoids per function. Probably a bad water valve.

Thanks.  Can you provide any information on where it is located, or how to replace it.  I can get the part number and diagram from the Whirlpool website, but they did not offer a service manual for this model, that I saw.

All you have to do is pull out the ice box and follow the water line to the water valve. Be sure to shut off the water supply before disconnecting the line. Their is 2 distinct sized tubes connected to that valve. The larger one (5/16th) is for the water in the door feature. The smaller line (1/4th) is for the ice maker. You will have to remove the rear bottom dust cover to replace the valve. Just snug up the lines, do not over tighten, turn on the water and check for leaks. If you have a small leak tighten it till the leaks stops. Nothing to it.
This video shows where the water valve connects to the ice box

I checked it out per your comment. Should be no problem at all.  The part is on order.

Thanks again!
