I have also heard that the Whirlpool site might be going non public in the future, so far Ive found nothing that backs up that rumor.

Yes, there were  'rumors' of that nature when WP hired a new IT guy to redesign their site. He claimed at the time that he would start preparations to make the site "Tech only" soon, but so far they have left it open to the  public. Having it available to just anyone cuts down on the effectiveness of sites like mine and AJs,however no one doubts the benefit of having technicians use it for reference.

Maybe Whirlpools new IT guy spread the rumors himself in a effort to drive more traffic to there site.

I've been in this business for 37 years.   Most of the general public gets info and it just helps them to screw up their machine even more than it was before.   Most of them don't know how to use a meter or other tools properly.    I'll give some one a manual and lets see them do a triple lip seal job on a speed queen or amana washer.   Ain't gonna be pretty.    I had 3 service calls this week from guys starting out theirselves and can't figure out how to complete repairs.     It usually ends up costing them more.

There are do it yourselfers in every field.    Car repair, computers,  home,  etc.      Computers and internet = Easy obtainable information.     Nothing you can do about it.   why get an ulcer.

Bottom line - some people will try to fix things no matter what. Just let them and don't let it bother you.     There are plenty of people who still need qualified repairmen out there.   .

Amen to that...I can attest to the damage an "engineer" can do to what should have been a routine repair :)

(You and I started in this line the same year)

Thanks for the Amen, brother!   I started when I was 18,  I'm 55 now.  My dad was in the business for 38 years.   I've seen alot over the years.  I think it just drives the engineers crazy that they can't fix something.   They have to try for their own sanity.

One thing is for certain.   They can automate assembly lines,  install self checkouts, Automate almost everything but unless they can get a robot to come to a house and make a service call,  Our jobs are secure.
