Kenmore Freezer

Help,

I have an older Kenmore freezer that stays cold but needs defrosting often.  The frost/ice accumulates on the inside top first, then each shelf builds ice.  I have to defrost every 6 mo.  Not sure if it is a frost free freezer or what is normal operation.  I would also like a manual for it.

Is it a chest freezer? Freezers normally don't have a defrost, check your seal for air leaks but all have to be manually defrosted from time to time.

It is a upright.  Is there a way to check the seal?

Close the door and visually inspect it especially near the top. Run your hand along the edge and feel for drafts. Does it get opened a lot? The outside airs humidity is what causes the frost.
