realizing the reason for specialty tools,

yup i now totally understand why specialty tools that are suggested, should be used. i was working on a lg washer, changed both pumps and just needed to replace the door boot. got the thing all on and just needed to put on the spring clamp, realized that while i was getting my tools in order at the house., i set the spring wrench down cuz i was distracted by the kids and left it sitting there. so i thought damn i dont wanna go get it, so dumbass , i grabbed the needle nose pliers, i had it almost where i needed it and the pliers slipped out of the spring. my hand flew up and hit something not sure what. so then i though ok so ill just get it this time, mean while i look at my hand and realize i am bleeding profusely, so i calmly walk to the bathroom and look for papertowel or something but couldnt find anything so i walk into the kitchen where the homeowner was. needless to say 13 stitches in my thumb later. i will no longer be borrowing my husbands tool i will be buying my own that stays in the toolbox.

Before I started using gloves--it was amazing how deep lacerations hurt less than a paper cut. Sometimes the heavy bleeding didn't start until 30 seconds afterwards.
Sorry that you had one of those days...

We've always had a long-standing joke at the shop that all the internal parts on a machine were made by Wilkinson Sword
It's almost like there's a sadist working at the factory who's honing down those edges, all the while secretly smirking that a technician will gash himself when he reaches in there. We foiled them by using gloves and preferrably wearing sleeves. As John pointed out, those lacerations are clean and deep...well, deep anyway. Get a Tetanus shot if you have not had one in 12 yrs.

Reminds me of the Youtube video of a tech showing how to access and replace motor/coupler/pump on Whirlpool direct drives. He starts out OK, but at the end ot the video, you can see a pretty substantial cut on his hand.

I use the thin carpenter style gloves with the thumb and forefinger open so you can still handle those small screws, or pick your nose
