when my washer suddendly started to smoke i turned off the machine and checked the motor
it stank like burned motor windings but everything else looked fine
i replaced the motor everything seemed to be working fine giving me the feeling of another DIY conquest
but 10 minutes into the first load the motor burned out again.
at that point i decided to buy a new washer. after setting aside the old one and hooking up the new one i moved the clothes from the old one to the new one
as i pulled out the the last pair of blue jeans i noticed a 3 inc nail in the drum that kept the motor from running
now i have two washers and one good motor

that can happen to the best of us
i had a humming friggy washer one time, so i removed belt and couldn't spin pulley by hand, so i ordered a tranny, luckily i saw the nail when i went to pull the agitator, so i wasn't that far into the job
but the customer waited days longer than they should have to get their washer back 
the best guy on his best day can still make a mistake 
but i'll never make that one twice
