transmission oil leak?

I took apart my Whirlpool washer for a dripping sound. That problem was probably the faucet, which was fixed. Now I have the washer open, I noticed a black oil residue on the floor - a small patch - and sprayed yellow oil on the lower half of the inside of the cabinet and on the frame rails. I thought at first the black stuff on the floor indicated a coupler wearing; but no, I think it's oil (having ordered a new coupler!) I have a fear this may be a transmission seal. Washer is a top load, 9 y/o, and only problem to date is recently chewing up a synthetic blanket.
Considering a new washer, b/c I'm concerned once I get into the transmission, something else caused that transmission problem. Any ideas?

Nothing is hard about repairing this washer up to and including replacing that shaft seal.

This model washer is a direct drive and does not have a belt so what are you talking about?

Lots of what if in the world,this is a easy fix.And the cost on the parts are way less than a new unit.
