Freezer does not freeze.
« on: March 15, 2010, 09:05:44 PM »
The freezer seems like it is always on defrost and there is water on the floor. The freezer is not freezing and the heating and defrost timer is ok.

Is it possible that the thermistor sensor on the evaporator is bad?

Thanks,

The defrost thermostat (part number AP3884317) can be difficult to check: It's supposed to be closed at 32 or less degrees F, and open above 34 degrees. Check to make sure the light goes off when the switch is depressed, and that the door depresses it when it is closed.  Here's a breakdown of your freezer section: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=210402&diagram_id=22343129#d22343129

The original post said there was water all over the floor, if the freezer remained in defrost no frost would be produced on the coil to make water. Are we not sure that the drain is not stopped up and the freezer is defrosting properly and melting the ice on the coil and spilling out through the front of the box?

Is the compressor running? If it is a light layer of frost should form almost immediatly on the evaporator coils. Check for a bad compressor relay if it is not running.

All the defrost thermostat does is kill the heater element during defrost. It does not control freezer temperature.

Verify the compressor is running, amp draw is OK,the liquid line is hot to the touch, the condenser fan motor is running and the evaporator fan motor is running.

Is it possible that the board assembly encoder in the GE Side-by-Side Refrigerator caused the problem not to freeze properly on the freezer side? This is because one day it is freezing and the next day, it seems like it is on defrost for a longer period of time. What could be the problem?

Thanks,

DaveTech
