24 in Thin Twin Agitates but wont spin
« on: March 11, 2010, 09:38:26 PM »
We have a 24in Whirlpool Thin Twin and dummy me washed a small bathroom rug in it. The rubber backing on the rug came off in little pieces and clogged the pump. We opened up the outer case and removed the pump and cleaned out the debris from the rug from the pump. We put the washer back together and it worked fine for about 3 loads. On the 4th load it filled up, agitated and drained but would not spin. We can hear a hum as if the motor is on..... We have the washer opened up again but are lost as to what we would need to do the troubleshoot why it won't spin. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated :) as I miss :'( my washer very much!!!!!

Well if it pumps out ok but don't spin you need to watch Mr Mikes world famous how to fix a direct drive washer video

So after watching the video, you are saying that the coupler may be the culprit?  ???

If the washer agitates the coupler is ok. Right? Possible lid switch problem?

Well got the parts and put them in. Put the washer back together to test run and it spins but there is  loud noise like it's missing the gears or not quite lined up right. Hubby is trying to remove the agitator shaft. would that be the culprit? if so how does the shaft come out? Is it pressed in or what? please help before the washer gets thrown out in to the yard!!!! :(

To remove the shaft you drop the tranny from the bottom. But their ain't no need to remove it. Even if the main drive gear inside needs to be replaced you still ain't gotta remove the shaft.
You will have to remove the tranny to inspect it tough.

Double check the coupler installation. If both plastic pieces are not flush with their respective shaft a noise can occur.
