My water is not working in my refrigerator.  We had a guy come out to see what was wrong with it and he said that we need a heater ($approximately $150.00) put on the line to keep the line from freezing or change the door mechanism for alot more money ($approx. $350.00)  That is almost half of the refrigerator!!!  We also did what they said and defrosted the frezzer completely and it did allow the water to flow correctly, but it was only a matter of time for the same problem to happen again and it does not work again.  The ice works fine, just the water.  Any suggestions?

 The kit will solve the problem with the freezing up issue and was a known re-work from GE. Getting them to account for it is another story

If you want more info on the kit itself, click here.  Frankly, you are only looking at a $58 repair cost, so you do the math and see who's being honest. Hey, don't let them get to you!

Thank you so much!!!!!  We were very frustrated with GE and it happened 15 months after a year warranty, go figure!  I learned so much today using this website and I appreciate all of your free advice!  I will tell everyone I know about this!  Thanks a million!

O.K.....I finally ordered and recieved the refrigerator freezer door kit and it specifically states that a certified appliance tech should put this in.  It looks a little complicated for a mom of three little ones to put on.  Any suggestions as to how to put this on correctly (pictures, suggestions, etc.)?  Thanks in advance and I appreciate all of your help.

In all fairness the kit came with instructions, as shown below. If certain repairs are beyond your scope of expertise, then you  need a live tech in your home to do the work. The first repairman already told you the problem and he was right. Don't get in over your head just to save a few bucks on repairs. There are many other simple repairs that were made for moms, this is not one of them.

Since the problem occurred only 3 months out of warranty, your best bet would be to call GE and tell them you already bought the parts if they will cover their defect by sending a tech out free.
