Pilot switch

I bought a pilot switch for the garage. (Teen boys keep leaving the lights on). I've slept since I last installed one of these. Don't remember how to wire it so that the indicator lamp is on when the light is on. Do I pigtail a neutral to the pilot lamp terminal?

Is this to replace the standard toggle garage light switch inside the house, and there's another light switch inside the garage ?

No 3-way (Unless it's Cincinnati chili). Just a standard light switch.

Is this replacing the original Switch, or adding a "remote location" pilot light ?

Let me get this straight. This is a 3 way light switch with a neon light in it. The switch in the house would glow in either position in the house if current is feeding a light in the garage correct?

This is a single pole double throw (ON/Off) switch with a pilot lamp that should glow when the lights are on. The 3 way refers to the chili, which can be eaten in the dark, as long as one has plenty of napkins. Sorry, folks: this thread got muddied with all the questions concerning the LOCATION of the switch.

either way ..

if you connected the pilot light directly accoss the switch contacts,
it will glow to let you know when the switch is OFF

That's how "lighted" Wall Switches work, built-in neon light is only ON when switch is OFF.

No extra wiring needed.

I always get the spst,dpst,spdt,etc. designations confused. That's why I parenthetically added "ON/Off". My switch has an indicator lamp (Neon?) that allows me to see when the switch is closed. (lights on). You see the trouble I stir up by trying to speak the language of the industry? This was intended to be a simple question with a short answer.

Just buy a standard "illuminated wall switch"

only need the original 2 wires ...

The built-in light will illuminate when the Switch is OFF.

You could get 120 volt led light and mount it on the switch cover. Then you would have a indicator and a night light.

I probably shouldn't jump in but my lighted wall switch, ( which lets me know if the light is on in the attic of my garage) lights up when the switch is ON.

then it would need a 3rd connection, or the Wall Switch Box would need to be metal, connected to a ground, yet some Wall Switches use plastic boxes, and no ground.
