Jumping Washer
« on: February 24, 2010, 03:45:39 PM »
My washer makes a squealing noise and jumps sideways when it finishes the spin.

What can be wrong and what can I do about it?

Tech Brians excellent explanation Although your washer is made a little different I think the cure is the same. Center the washer, level the washer and make sure the snubber is in the right position.

JW this seems to be more of a grabbing brake problem that squeals and jumps sideways when it comes to a stop.

Is that Possible?

You could add some oil to the brake package

This is the Performa washer...brake noise is perfectly normal when this unit stops. The machine must have all 4 rubber pads on the feet or it will slide. If the pads are in place and not worn, Maytag recommends No-Slip discs under the feet to keep it in one spot, especially on slick floors.

You could stop the brake squeal (if you had the $100 brake tool) with a simple sanding of the stator to break the glaze that forms after years of stopping.
