Online backup services?
« on: January 12, 2014, 08:26:56 PM »
I currently use apples Time Machine for backups along with Carbon Copy Cloner.

I backup to external USB drives. I use Time Machine daily most of the time, when I remember to plug it in.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner every couple weeks with two USB drives that I swap out with each other and keep one in a bank safety deposit box.

Also using dropbox and google drive for archiving.

Thinking I would like to start using a online backup service in addition to what I currently do for backing up my data.

A few days ago I signed up for CrashPlan's free 30 day trial after reading about them online and researching a few other companies that provide similar online backup services.

Just wondering if you guys use any type of online backup service and if so what one and why.

Thanks,
Hope you find our website helpful.

I use Cabonite and have for about 4 years. Backs up automatically when online. When I purchased a new computer, I signed in and it transferred all my saved items on my other computer to my new. $60.00 a year.  http://www.carbonite.com/online-backup/free-trial?catid=200247&mkwid=ekc1EMS2I

Been doing a lot of research about online backups and thou I'm still just on my 30 day trial with CrashPlan I'm more then likely going to stick with them.

A few interesting links I come across in my research.

A list of 40 online backup services.

http://lifehacker.com/five-best-online-backup-services-1006345049

http://cloudbackupsource.com/code-42-software-the-brains-behind-crashplan/

A few features I like about CrashPlan.

  • Truly unlimited data backup
  • Keeps deleted files forever. Unless you select not to keep them.
  • Retains files from disconnected drives
  • Rollback files and folders to any date/version
  • Private Key with 448-bit encryption
  • Restore-to-Door Option
  • Based in Minneapolis, MN Almost right next door.
So oldstoveguy and I are the only ones using a online backup service or are you using one and just don't care to share with us? ;)

oldstoveguy, do you remember about how much data and how long it took for Carbonite to download the files to your new computer?
Hope you find our website helpful.
