Read somewhere that the warranty for the electronics for maytag dryers are 5 yrs.  Called maytag and they tell me it is just 1 yr. Does anyone know for sure?  Maytag Neptune gas dryer.

you can't tell by the model #, you need the serial number, the last 2 letters of the serail # indecate what year and month it was built, if it was built before january 2006, it may have 5 years of some parts. your owners manual does describe this info, or if you post your serial # i would be glad to check for ya.

the manual that Trout posted is for a neptune dryer, but the 5500 was being built both before and after jan 2006, the manual the he posted if for one after jan 2006, double check yours

my manual says 1st year parts and labor, 2nd year parts, 3-5 yrs following parts Dryer tumbler and Electronic controls  are covered.

Is the console with LED membrane touch pad considered "Electronic controls"?

What really pisses me off is when I called Maytag and gave them my serial # they claimed that the warranty for the dryer was 1 year only...period.
Then they told me I would have to have and pay an authorised serviceman to troubleshoot and install the parts.

It wasn't too hard to troubleshoot... start/pause button does not have the feel of all the other buttons. Got a error code 8 (membrane pad stuck key) and Dryer starts on its own.  Not to mention that the part is extremely easy to replace.

What do I do?

Don't do what I did. I put your model number in the Maytag owners manual link and came back with that manual.
As Schaffer said, must be in the serial number.

Yes it is part of the 5 year warranty.  But you must hurry because you only have a few days left! You do need a authorized Maytag repair man to come out to fix your problem, as he will be the only one to get the part covered.  Call a local mom and pop shop that specializes in maytag from your phone book, or ask neighbor's or friends who they use.  I don't recommend using factory service for this call, as by the time they get to ur house your warranty may be up.  Get a hold of a local dealer and let them know your issue, you should have a serviceman at your door pretty quick!  Good luck

P.S. you will have to pay the service call and labor. the 5 year warranty only covers parts and not anything else.
