Kenmore HE2 says "RL" during clean cycle, but it's empty.

Our HE washer won't go through the cleaning cycle.  It goes into the cycle, but is detecting clothes in the drum and displays "RL" with a lot of flashing lights.  

We have had this washer since 2006, don't have any odor issues, and honestly have never tried this cycle before.  Leaving the door open when it's not washing has probably helped a lot.

Anyway, any advice on how to get it to go into the cycle?  I tried about 6 times, and just now put it in an express wash cycle with the water set to hot and a second rinse just to get the bleach out of the dispinser.

I tried turning the power off to the washer and shaking the drum a bit, but that didn't work.  S/N is HLT1794679 if that makes a difference.

No clothes... I'm trying to run the self clean cycle with no clothes and 2/3 cups of bleach.  Sorry that I wasn't clear on that.

you  may need to add some clothes for it to work. throw something in there that the bleach won't harm.

I tried it again after that "express wash" cycle and it worked fine... not sure what the difference was, but at least it's done...
