My racks are cracking and rusting.  Does this pose any harm to the machine to run it with the rust issue?  I looked online for parts and the racks are way over 200 for both rack replacements together.  Is this a common Maytag problem, my brothers 2001 model has the same issue.

One guy I know simply took bolt cutters and cut out the rusted area painted the tips with epoxy paint, instead of paying all the money for them new racks.

call around some local mom and pop appliance shops.  I know at my dads store we had a bunch of racks laying around in the basement in good condition, and some new from field scraps. just a thought.
