It is just one of them regal tools made in china. It is red made of steel with no hammer head, just a small curved claw. Just right for compressing that brake. makes it way easy to put that e-clip back on. It fits right down between the spokes of the drive pulley. The claw allows just enough leverage to compress the brake.

Need to get me one of these and give it a try next time I work on one. :)

I am convinced here is no possible way to get any thicker washer in there. I had to beat the clip in with a  hammer and screw driver while  i had someone else hold 2 screw drivers in the slot to get the clip in.
I figure i'm gonna have to get a new washer or someone else to fix it .

I will tell you another way to do it. It is tricky. Get 2 lug nuts and attach some bailing wire to them. wit all the parts off of the tranny you can plainly use a lug wrench to press down on that brake package(with washer turned upside down on a pad)Slip the nuts into the gap so that the brake will remain compressed. Put everything back on and snatch out the nuts. Told ya it was tricky

Just a side note about the washer and clip....

You do not have to use the thick washer at all, unless for some reason you have lots of room. As you know, this is not often the case but they send one anyway. If there is little or no room left on the shaft, I have installed the c-clip with the thinnest washer I have, even it it's from the old kit. It really does get easier the 2nd or third time you do this.

The absolute easiest way to do the thrust bearing is to remove the 6 springs, tub hoses & airline, disconnect the belt, then lift the whole assembly, tub and all, out onto the floor and turn it upside down. All the parts are easy to replace from this angle, and no nuts are needed :)

As long as you have the spring tool handy this only takes about 20 minutes.

Brake pkg
« Reply #24 on: April 13, 2008, 04:56:50 AM »
What they are saying (without really saying) is that they also re-designed the brake rotor. I guess they want you to replace it as well for best results. They are implying that a new brake rotor will make it easier to install that c-clip.

It works just like it did before i started doing anything to it.  Spins out and leaves wet cloths sometimes.

I had to put an old thinner washer on it from the old bearing .The one that came with it was impossible to get on. It took 2 of us with a hammer with 3 screw drivers to pound it in there.
