Ok, I looked at the actuator or lever, it's the metal cage that the switch sits in and the lever extends down so when the door is closed it pushes the switch etc.  I noticed that the lever is rubber or plastic coated, some of my coating is missing- no coating on the side that touches the door.  Is this creating a short?  If it's supposed to be coated on that side, would of piece of electrical tape over it temporarily solve the problem?

That dont matter what does matter is if it is making the switch close when you shut the door.

Is it possible that I am missing a whole terminal off my door switch, I mean has anyone ever seen that happen?  I tried my other idea with the tape I actually used a piece of heat shrink.  It didn't work.
When I didn't see any replies here yet, I went to WP parts to see photos of switch and actuator.

The 3rd door switch terminal is for a drum light.
If you have no drum the the 3rd terminal is mute.

Remove the belt from the drum and motor and try again to see if the motor runs.
Sounds to me like something is binding.

Thanks, exactly what I needed to know, I almost gave my local WP $40 for a switch that isn't broke.  I've been looking for a definitive answer since I posted a couple of hours ago.
Headed to garage now...will post update shortly.

motor does not turn with belt off, dryer door switch closed and push to start button pressed :(

However, you can feel vibration at the start switch.
The motor itself turns freely by hand, the connections look fine.  Should I be checking the motor and centifrugal switch next?
I have the home study manual from the service matters site and it gives a procedure for checking both, is this the next step?

The vibration in the start switch is from the coil energizing inside the switch.
Jump out the wires on the thermal fuse on the rear of the dryer exhaust vent. Do not let them touch anything. Try your start switch again.
Also you might press and hold the start switch to see if it starts.
Let us know what these 2 suggestions do for you.

I tried the thermal fuse suggestion, nothing. :'(  Son showed up to unplug dryer for me (I have problems with my hands makes that plug hard to grasp) told him it didn't work, let me try it again, turned the timer again, open and shut door, pressed start and  :) :) :) :) VIOLA! :)  :) :) :)

Now I must ask you masters of repair..what does it all mean?

Just kidding.
You may want to turn off the breaker, remove the cover to the wall outlet and inspect for loose terminals in the wall outlet.
Some dryer cords allow you to spread the spade ends slightly for a tighter fit.
