I have a 2003 Model Frigidaire FRS26R4CB1
side by side that started to give me fits last night. I noticed a buzzing sound every couple minutes which would last 10-20 seconds and the compressor wouldn't kick on. I pulled the fridge out this morning and cleaned up quite a bit of dust around the compressor and coils. After researrching the problem on this site and others I narrowed down the problem to the compressor or the start relay. The compressor is # TPE1380YXA and is 134A. The posts I read said that if it is a start relay problem that, this being a solid-state relay, it should rattle when I shake it if it has failed. Well after removing it there is no rattle. I put it back together and pluged it in and it took off fine. It ran all afternoon with out a hitch until once this evening when I heard the buzzing and click without the the compressor starting. On the next try, about two minutes later, it started and has started several times since. This leads me to the following questions,
Can it be the start relay if it works intermitantly?
If so, should it be replaced with the original part or a 3 in 1 hard start relay such as an URCO410? (I have done enough research to know that this part will work with the run capacitor on my fridge.) If the 3 in 1 is the way to go, how is it wired? Does it come with the proper round connectors to the 3 pins on my compressor? (The stock relay plugs directly into the compressor.)
If it is the compressor, what is the aproximate cost of having it professionally replaced? As far as I can tell it would be $1200-$1400 to replace the fridge.
I have another fridge in the garage so time isn't that critical. Would love to save the money and repair it myself.
Thanks so much for the great site.
