Kitchen Aid Refrigerator KSRS27QBL01

texan2:
I was out of town for a week and came home to a refrigerator that won't cool.  I hear the fan running, but no sound from the compressor other than an occasional click.  I took the cover off the back and the compressor is very warm to the touch.
I don't know how long it was like this, but the ice had melted although some of the frozen food was still cold.  Do I have a bad compressor or is it something else?

The occasional click sounds like a bad start relay on the compressor. This is a common problem with whirlpool made refrigerators that are around the 5 year old range.

Here is one of my old ebay guides that will show you more.

Refrigerator Start Relay

How old is your refrigerator?

Make sure the fan down by the compressor is running.
It should run when ever the compressor should run.

texan2:
The Kitchen Aid refrigerator has a manufacturer date of 5/98.

I'll order a start relay and see what happens.  Thamks.

AJ:
Sounds great, let us know how it goes...

It took a few minutes to get the plastic cover off and replace the relay, but the repair was fairly easy.  My refrigerator is working great.  Thanks for the advice!!
