CE-IE65151 Continental Portable Ice Maker

Total newbie here. I have the above ice machine and the control panel gives me false readings. It will not cut off when the Ice basket is full. I just started turning the power off when it is full of ice. Now it has started indicating that the unit is full of ice if it runs out of water and won't reset with the power button. I have been able to get it to reset by unplugging it for a few minutes but this fix works sometimes and not others.

Obviously there is an electrical control problem. My question, how do I diagnose the problem and is it a fix that a homeowner can make, or should I call a local appliance repair guy. Also, if it's a simple repair, where can I get parts?

Check the ice bin switch. It probably is faulty. Most ice machines have a very simple mercury based switch that has a long sensing arm which extends down into the ice bin, as the ice fills the arm touches ice and power is killed to the machine. These newer models use thermisters to detect full ice bins. I bet it is a cheap thermister on a newer model or a failed mercury based switch on older models causing this.
