Maytag GDG23CD Dryer Code F
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:32:26 AM »
I have a code F showing on the main time on my upper dryer.

Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

Thanks!

There should be  a tech sheet inside the top console. If I recall, F-11 signifies a motor issue..sorry I don't have this manual for you. The model you gave does not show up on
Maytag database.

My Code F was a high temp on a thermistor. I reset the fault & cleaned the lint off the thermistor and the dryers have been good since.

NOW I have a new problem:

This is a problem on both top & bottom units.  At the beginning of the cycle, the ignitor comes on, the flame lights and the unit gets hot - then the gas turns off.  When the unit cools, the igniter comes back on but no gas/flame then the ignitor goes out.  This will do this a few more times, but never lights again.  After the time runs out, It will light the first time but never light again during the new time.

The gas open solenoid does not energize after the first time - I checked by holding a paper clip on the solenoid - the first flame there is a magnetic pull on the paperclip while there is a flame, everytime the ignitor comes on after the first flame - the solenoid does not energize.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

feel the solenoids after they quit, you will see why they quit, they get hot and fail. after they cool down they work a little more. Change the coils.

When disconnecting the wires would create a flame ONLY worked on the initial/first flame.  After the initial flame cycle, the wire disconnect would not work the next time the ignitor glowed, this time, the ignitor stays on as long as the wires are connected, when I disconnect no flame.

Now what coil are you talking about??  I felt all three on the gas valve and they do not seem hot.  (they all look the same).  I let the unit cool down and let the unit light, as soon as the flame went out, I felt all three coils and they felt cool.

Also, this is a stack dryer set (top & Bottom unit), I have the exact same problem on both units.  But they both did not fail at the same time, but within days of each other.

Thanks for your help!

check your vent on the outside, you might be cutting off airflow and tripping out on high limit really quick, just a thought

when it does light, how does the flame look? does it shoot way back in the heater cone, or is it a shorter fatter flame?

The flame looks like there is good airflow, the flame is being sucked way back in the tube.  top & bottom dryer have their individual vent (They do not share a vent)

Do I change ALL 3 coils?  (Looking at the part diagram, it shows 4 coils, 3-4626; 3-5603; 3-5604; 3-5605  -  Do I change them all?)

Part diagram attached.

Thanks!

Run the machine and then feel the coils, the hottest one will be the bad one be sure to replace the coils exactly like they are stacked now. Mix em up and it won't work
