Maytag Washer MTW6500 will not spin?
« on: January 10, 2010, 02:00:56 PM »
Anyone have a repair manual for a Maytag Bravos Washer MTW6500, the washer drains but will not spin, I would like to try the troubleshooting section of the manual. I have found the one for the neptune machine it suggests using test functions on the electronic board to test the motor. any help would be appreciated, thanks

Thank you for the manual, We have tested the components as directed in the manual. The code we have on the display is F50. We think it is the motor control board, is this a common part to replace?
The manual instructs us to replace this part and if that does not work basically keep trying parts until you are blue in the face (or broke). Well everything else tests out fine with the ohmmeter. Interesting piece of technology when you start  looking at the guts of this machine. 2 years for a $1200.00 Maytag not bad I guess, when you consider how much gas I would have to spend going to the river and having to wait while the wife washes the cloths!

it should be 12 volts dc or 24 volts dc, not sure which one, but you should read voltage across p5 pin 1 to neutral, p5 pin 2 to neutral, and p5 pin 3 to neutral... does the motor move at all by itself? an F50 can be the hall sensor, rotor, wire harness, or board. Good luck

i wasnt sure bout the voltage, but it is a 3 phase dc motor, so thats a good step i guess, did you do resistance checks across those terminals according to the manual? and did you do resistance checks on the motor and hall sensor? If you did, or when you do, post me your results

P 5 connector checks out at 32 ohms, P 10 connector fails as pin 6-5 and 6-4 and 6-3 only have 1.52 K and should be 15K, also pin 1-7 checks good at 11.66K right in range, the next test suggests testing the P10 connector and RPS connector, it had continuity so i checked motor windings which were not open, motor ohms also checks out at 31.9 ohms, verifying the motor to be good.

So then I have checked the P 5 connector and the drive motor connector and there is continuity, therefore as the manual is suggesting that I change the motor? what is with this manual? I am confused it must be a misprint right?
So we have done the test previously for the RPS and it checked out good , reading the proper direction and order of lights in the manual test mode(turning drum by hand). When we did the manual test for motor spin it didnt do anything other than flash F 50, so now it says we are to replace the motor control board. Please fill me in on what you think, Again, Thank You for your time. Jim

check your owners manual for your warranty!  :D hopefully its in effect!  i have worked on F51 codes before, and i have had to replace the harness, rotor, and board on more then one... i would say, start with the motor and sensor first (come in a kit) and by from a place with a returns policy like appliance parts pro, use the Model # look up the left of the page that will send you right to them
