What is the black part that resembles a relay.  The part I am referring to is mounted to the cabinet under the head.  What is it what does it do

What is the full model number? Not sure what your referring to with regards to the "head"? If your talking about the black cylindrical object inside a white plastic housing mounted on the inside of the back panel under the water inlet valve on some models, that is the motor start capacitor.

You can find the Model# (starts with 110.) on the Top Panel under the Lid/Door.
You can view the Washer Diagram with part info at www.appliancepartspros.com

APP doesn't have parts breakdown diagrams for Kenmore models. For that, go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com/

I don't have the model number  but what I'm talking about  is  when you lift the top(head)  face up and get ready to pop the two clips off so you can pull the cabinet off the machine. The cabinet itself has a list switch mounted on left rear.  Not right side like most.  On the cabinet itself is mounted a little ret angular  box in the rear middle near where the wire harness goes down into the machine.  This black  box relay looking  part is mounted and I then will come off by one 1/4 inch screw. It has at least two wires going to it  that I can remembe but not sure. I could not find it on any parts breakdown but the series is kenmore 800 it has plastic timer and load sense pressure swich and a delay board on the timer.  I just don't know what that little black part is for on the of the cabinet

11829382800 might be a valid model number for this machine

Model number is invalid but the device you are referring to is an RFI filter for the AC line input. It contains two capacitors and an inductor to suppress RF interference on the power line conductors. It's used on some models that have electronic circuit boards.
