I have a Sears Kenmore range that was made by Whirlpool, and it had the same error code. Sears told me that the part (the glass touchpad) was unavailable. (They also told me it was in stock, and on back order, but that's another story...)
Since I couldn't replace the touchpad, I bought a timer/controller, on the off chance it was a bad controller and the error was wrong. The timer/controller didn't fix anything.
I then decided to disable the bad button. I pushed every button on the panel, and all but one made the controller beep. The one silent one was the down-hour control. I don't need that, I can cycle around with up-hour. I ended up cutting the connection on one of the tiny components associated with that button, and to my surprise it worked.
