Whirlpool Gas Dryer Won't Light; No Power to Ignitor
« on: January 02, 2010, 04:09:13 PM »
OK... thanks to JWWebster and the AJ forum, I got this piece taken apart.  ;D

My problem is the dryer runs, but it wouldn't get hot. After disassembly, I found the ignitor wasn't getting hot. Get the DVM out, and I have no voltage to the ignitor. The ignitor checks at 75 ohm.

Any educated guesses as to what the problem may be?

That's why I asked.   ;D

Yep, it appears the culprit is the Dryer Thermal Fuse ( #AP3132867 ). It reads open with the DVM. I guess I'll jump it to make sure nothing else is causing an issue, and if the burner lights, I'll put the front and top of the dryer back together, and get a new fuse ordered Monday.

Be sure to remove air restrictions to prevent buying more of them fuses my friend.

Not real sure why the thermal fuse went out. There was nothing clogging the vent, and the filter screen was clean. The vent runs only about a foot to the outside of the house.

With the thermal fuse jumped, the ignitor came on, and the burner lit. I put everything back together, except the back panel, and it runs and heats like new.

Thanks y'all!

A bad hi-limit thermostat can cause the T-fuse to blow. So can a bad control thermostat.

OK... how do I test those? I'm assuming they are the 2 sensors in the burner box?  I do have an infra-red temp gun to check the temp of the burner box.

Thanks!

Run the dryer with the vent removed and no load inside non the Timed Dry cycle. Look for 145-155 degrees coming from the back of the exhaust port. Anything more indicats a stuck operating thermo (bias thermostat)

Your model comes back to a White- Westinghouse dryer, not Whirlpool. It is made by Frigidaire and your model is not compatible with any known models, so recheck it if you want specific help with this product, thanks.

Actually, I'm a fan of Taz myself, but I digress back to Rotor's issue at hand. The Bias Thermostat is shown below which you  might consider replacing. Located on the blower housing next to the white thermal fuse.
