 Here is a quick little video that shows you when your Whirlpool made in-door ice maker should fill with water.
Notice that the ice maker fingers that scoop the ice cubes out are just about pointing straight up when the ice maker starts to fill.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For no ice or low ice production, always confirm normal (0-5 Deg F) freezer temperatures before beginning diagnostic checks. The ice maker is designed not to run if the freezer in  not in this temperature range.

The ice maker only fills for about 7 seconds then the fingers move down to about the 2 o'clock position until the ice is frozen and ready to be harvested.

Hello, I just found this site! Its great. My ice maker quit after it was overflowing with ice and wont turn on again. I would like to do the troubleshooting before I spend any money. The videos from Youtube say they are no longer available, but I would really like to know how to do the diagnostics, are they available anywhere else or can you explain them to me.

Try changing your watervalve and water filter first, then change the ice maker if the water valve don't fix it. That's the cheapest move for a DIYer. Is your IM a modular type or compact? is it flex tray or single mold ge? Perhaps you could post a model number before Al Capone gets ya! I have all the info you need. Just give me a hint about your  ice maker.
