41 volts to water fill valve
« on: December 01, 2009, 02:51:46 PM »
Whirlpool made Kenmore Elite dishwasher.
Getting 41 volts to water valve. Harness OK. 120 volts everywhere else in machine. Direct wire to water valve fills with water, washes and drains OK.
Reading 41 volts at valve and 41 volts leaving the control board.
My evaluation is a bad board.
Any seconds?

If there is 41 VAC leaving the board you have a bad board in my humble opinion.

Have you guys seen this? At one of the tv repair sites Jimbo listed a while back i came across this gadget: Smart tweezers. With this dude it could be possible to find a faulty capacitor in one of them control boards.

That is my assessment too. Had 41 at the valve terminals and 41 coming from the board.
I jumped the valve with external power and filled the machine, wash and drain was ok.

If there was a voltage drop then one of these capacitors has probably failed on the control board.

no, it would be one of the little 3-leggers, similar to the Q6 on the Neptunes

how do you know which one it is? Cool pix. Is this the dishwasher board or a sample showing the triac? That orange guy is called and orange drop capacitor. Large cylindrical and mounted away from the board, it is built like that to withstand high heat transfer. Don't ask me what the hell it does.

no heat, maybe vibration

that's the Board ..

according to the Wiring Diagram Q3 controls the Water Inlet Valve

"Q3" is printed on the Board

...How much is that tiny part ...
about 18 cents

http://www.newark.com/jsp/displayProduct.jsp?sku=06F9728http://www.newark.com/jsp/displayProduct.jsp?sku=06F9728

not certain about the part number .. you'd have to post the actual number on the bad part ..

Couldn't I disconnect the brown neutral wire at the board and splice it in at the terminal box to neutral and everything would work fine?
