Kenmore cycling

Sorry I don't have the model number this is my mothers machine I can get it later. The machine is less than a year old and starts fine, fills with water, starts the wash cycle for a min or so then stops, then starts again and continues to do this. Hoping its mechanical and not the board. There was no warranty so I will try fixing myself.

NO warranty? most kenmore have a year...It may just be heating the water.
 A model number will help.
