Stripped Motor Shaft -Dishwasher

The chopper lost a battle with a piece of hard plastic (I let the battle go until the plastic won.... too long).

In the end my motor shaft is now stripped... anything I can do to save the motor?

It's the actual motor shaft. See picture.
The chopper is held in place with a metal adapter, part of a seal kit (99003341) I installed a while back once the plastic piece broke.

If the threads on the motor shaft are wrecked you will need a motor . When you put the seal kit on the last time is it possible you put the wrong adapter over the motor shaft and wrecked its threads . I don't know if that's a possible but I have never seen a problem with the threads on the motor.

Don't think I installed it improperly, followed instructions attached.

If I had access to a machine shop I could make another adapter and dye out some new threads on the remaining shaft, shame to replace a whole motor for a threaded end.

I had this same problem.  The shaft that lost the battle was totally nylon or plastic and the nylon/plastic threads were destroyed.  The replacement part was improved with metal threads. 

You must pay very careful attention when dismantling all the parts to get to the stripped out shaft.  There are screws which are almost the same but some are a little longer than others.  It's easy to get them confused.  And some parts look like they fit a certain way and you can get them back on in the wrong order.

I bought Maytag because of it's reputation.  However, this dishwasher is only 5 years old and has had several parts, including the door latch (again, all nylon/plastic and new part reinforced with metal) and some little rubber flapper valves in the back, fall apart because of poor materials.

I am thinking they make these things with inferior parts so the Maytage repair man won't be lonely.  In any event, no more Maytag for me.

I replaced the pastic part with the metal one (part of new seal kit) a few years back, now the metal one stripped the threads on the motor shaft. Reassembly may have been an issue... but it did run fine for a number of years.
A new motor is on order. Careful reassembly to follow
The old Maytag quality is non existant now... no more Maytag for me either.

Great.  So, that's what I have to look forward to should a glass break again.    Is it even worth it to replace the motor?  I mean, what will break next?

I hear ya... and concidered replacement... until I priced a new Meile out.

I will live with it for a little longer.

Bottom line if you hear loud grinding stop/drain/disassemble pump and clear the obstruction, don't let the battle wage on.
