The clamp no longer holds on the shaft. It slides forward allowing the blower wheel to slide forward and make all kinds of niose against the plastic housing. I put the clamp back on have JB Welded it 2x. It will hold for a couple of weeks and then slide off again. The clamp looks just like the one here (part #200):

So, I am not sure if it is the clamp that is defective or that the motor shaft that the clamp and blower wheel are on has worn down or if there maybe used to be a set screw or something that is missing?

Thanks for the reply! The screw has been there the whole time. It is tightened down as far as it will go. Any other suggestions?

What must be stripped? The screw does not come loose. I am about to have to tear into my dryer to fix it again, argggghhh. I am trying to figure out another way to keep this thing from sliding off the shaft.  :(

Last night, I went to repair it again. I can tell you that even with the clamp screwed down nice and tight, the blower wheel can freely slide back and forth. The clamp is of no use. I was going to do the whole JB Weld operation again, but I know that does not last too long. So, I decided to take the clip off altogether. That gave me a little more shaft to work with. I used a a small hose clamp on the end of the shaft to, hopefuly, hold the dryer wheel on better. The dryer is a little louder now, but it works. We will see for how long. ;)

The blower wheel shouldn't be loose on the shaft. It sounds like the blower wheel bushing is wore out. I don't know this particular dryer but all the blower wheels I have replaced are either threaded on or they have a press fit with a keeper on the end of the shaft.

You need a new wheel. If it is that loose then your dryer will overheat, costing more to operate and a possible dangerous condition.

Bear in mind that it does not turn freely. Just slides back and forth. Actually, when I try to turn it, it turns the whole drum. The shaft is flat on 1 side, so that keeps it from turning freely.

The wheel should not slide back and forth on the shaft. It should be a press, tight fit. I agree with JW. Get a new blower wheel.
