whirlpool dishwasher wont spray water
« on: February 17, 2008, 09:10:31 AM »
Just replaced the heating element to fix the clean light flahsing problem and cleaned the inside of my dishwasher.  It will cycle through but there is no water spraying out either the top or bottom arms.  I took the arms apart and cleaned the build up.  any ideas?

Thanks Cherie

If the motor is running, there is a common problem with these & Kitchen Aid, the screen in the pump gets plugged up with calcium etc. The trick is to remove the pump cover. look @ service manual. No need to remove the screen when you get to it,just use an old tooth brush & should solve problem.

is there enough water in the d/w ?

maybe a crimped fill hose after moving d/w back into place.

When you say you cleaned out the pump, did you clean the top screen or get below by the wash impeller?

I cleaned the filter and below the filter itself, inside the dishwasher itself.  Should I pull that again and also go and pull whatever parts are underneath and clean them also? I didnt get to the parts that are underneath the dishwasher itself, probably meaning the pump?  And the dishwasher does completely fill with water in the bottom of it.

GU2400XTPB3 go to the parts catalog image for pump and motor parts

remove #8  there is one screw and a locking tab you pry back with a screw driver, make sure the screen on #6 isn't plugged

if thats all good and its full of water you are going to need #10

Every month, pour a quart of white vinegar into the dishwasher when it is empty and let it run a short cycle. The acetic acid in the vinegar will keep the calcite broken down to a reasonable level.

You might also consider switching to TABLET detergent instead of powder or liquid, as these tend to discourage residue.

Softener is the key

AJ is exactly right. Most city water (and certainly well water) is high in mineral concentrations. The makers of most dishwasher detergents agree that the ideal water hardness should be close to 5 grains. If we multiply this by 17.5, we get the parts per million (PPM). Since buying a mechanical softener is fairly expensive, the best alternative is to choose a detergent that will do all this for you.

Over the years, I have experimented with all varieties of dishwasher products. I've attended lectures by representatives from Proctor & Gamble about the science behind the products, and why  certain ones work better in hard water. For instance, the tablets contain not only detergent but a rinse agent as well. A rinse agent is a fancy term for softener. It allows the water to sheen off of the glasses and not spot. There are even certain brands which work better than others, I discovered. My favorite for the moment is Electrasol Tablets, with the Powerball.

My own water comes from a well, and I measured the hardness at 22 grains last year. With these Electrasol tabs, I have had absolutely no buildup whatsoever in my dishwasher, and everthing comes out spotless. So far, they have Cascade beat hands down, plus I do not have to spend money on Jet Dry any more.

Also my wifes favorite. Never asked why, lol.
