Maytag Performa won't spin

My Maytag won't spin during the spin cycle.  Looking at the brake roto, the pad is broken to pieces.  Before I get a replacement, I wanted to see if anybody else had this problem and I wanted to confirm that I was fixing the cause and not just getting another brake roto so it can fail in a few weeks.

I've decided to get both the brake rotor (pad is gone from over 50% of the rotor and the thrust bearing kit.  Hope this does it.

Wow, can't say I have ever seen one broken into pieces.

I have installed a lot of thrust bearing kits on this model washer.
