DSI Oven tip

I found this helped my specific Whirlpool stove with DSI and I think it will probably apply to all.  If you are having lock out problems, over heating, shut off or other symptoms that point to the three or four service pointers referring to the updated burner/ignitor assembly, or the additional ground on the dsi controller, and the UPGRADES HAVE BEEN DONE, but your oven is acting up again.  Check for corrosion on the ignitor tip, it is used in the ground circuit for the flame sensor.  If it has been corroded too much it will interfere with the flame sensor function in the circuit.  A little emery cloth with remove enough corrosion to make the circuit reliable again.  Just thought I would toss that out there.

I just hope it helps somebody out!  I looked and looked and couldn't find more than the service pointers, and t/s an appliance is something new.  However I am familiar enough with multimeters that I went looking for the issue.  This is easy enough to verify with the ignitor/burner out of the oven.

1.  Check for resistance between wiring harness connector and elbow.  Should be 0 Ohms.

2.  Check for resistance between wiring harness connector and ignitor tip and it will probably read infinite.

Upon further examination you will notice it is actually coated in a fine soot.

If you take measurement #2 from close to the ceramic or on the backside you might get some inconsistant measurements showing continuity.  However after a good cleaning it should also show 0 Ohms from anywhere!
