Removal of Agitator from Performa Washer

I have a washer where the agitator is jaming - the moter etc seems okay. I think I need to get the agitator off to look at what's going on but I am having real problems getting a grip on the retaining screw so I have a view questions that I expect are very quick to answer.

1  Once I remove the conditioner 'pot' is there any other part of the agitator I can remove without removing the retaining screw ? - if yes how ?

2 Which way do I turn the screw to loosen it ?

3  What size socket should I use ?

4  Am I generally on the right track in removing the agitator and working down  if I think there may be bearings gone ?

you remove the bleach dispenser then the cup and you will see a bolt.

Yes I can see the bolt - that's what I referred to as the screw - it looks like a 1/2 inch hex head to me but I can't get my 1/2 inch socket to grip on it. I assume anti-clockwise to loosen - am I doing something wrong ? Is there more of the agitator assembly that pulls off to get me a better access to the bolt ?

Finally got it off - had to file down the end of my socket (get rid of the bevelled end) to get enough grip - 1/2" is the right size. Looks like someone got happy with the mastick/ sealant
