GE washer makes noise when agitating
« on: October 04, 2009, 12:21:30 PM »
My GE washer, model WJRE5500G0WW is only 2 yrs old and the outer drum jerks and makes a terrible noise. I made sure there is nothing stuck in the agitator. The machine is level. Any suggestions? I might go deaf from the noise!

Maybe one of those bungy straps has broken. The machine has 4 of these straps that damper side to side movement. Here is a standard repair pamplet on these particular washers:

Thanks. I'll take a look and see if it is the Tub dampening strap!  :)

Nope, not the Tub dampening strap. All 4 are in tack and look ok. If you wiggle the outer drum, it will make the noise. Seems to be the tub is rubbing against the rod in the left back corner. But can't see what to do to fix the problem?

The innards of this beast is supported by 4 rods. remove the pump and take the 4 rods loose then you can remove the whole shebang and give it a closer look.

Sounds like the front apron brace is bent.  When there is a load in it, it will allow the brackets from the shipping rod to rub the bottomof the washer.  Take the front panel off and fill the tub with water, once it is full see how much space is left under the brace on the bottom of the motor.

I have see that too... Someone  move the washer with a small hand truck and bent the bottom up... had to lay the wash on its back remove the bottom and hammer it flat...also had to replace the drive pulley as it was damaged by the bottom...

Take the two wire plug  off your mode shift and ohm them. The connection goes from the mode two the motor. One model ohms around 98 ohm and one around 68.If yours is open the thing jumps all over when running.

Mode shifter changes the shaft and tube from spin to agitation. with the Coil energized for agitate mode 135 VDC 18sec then 30 VDC to keep it up; cam teeth disengaged from drive pulley. If the coil is de-energized for spin/idle mode; cam teeth engaged in drive pulley.

So if the coil is open the cam teeth will not disengage from the pulley the washer would not agitate ...

I have also see a weak coil..causing the cam teeth to partly engage in agitation slapping the cam on the pulley..
