LG Dryer Noisy
« on: October 01, 2009, 12:49:41 AM »
We purchased this LG DLG9588WM  dryer along with LG Tromm WM2496HWM Washer around February I think of 2007.  We have already replaced the washer due to the fact it could not get our clothes clean and kept finding sludge in agitator arms with balls on the inside even though we followed the tub clean recommendations.  Now right after replacing the washer the Dryer started to make sounds like a pair shoes are in there.  I really would love to replace the dryer too but can't really afford to right now.  We also have what appears to be rust on the back part of the drum where the holes are.  Is there an available service manual yet for this model?

Thank you,
 Cindi

LG doesn't list this particular model on their website yet, but a similar model is, and the manual link is shown below. The mechanical similarities to your model should be identical. Sounds like you need a new drum. If yours has a stainless steel drium, it is warranted for life.

Thank you,

So the thumping could also be caused by the drum?  Or is that separate from the rust issue?  Thank you for the manual.

Hi Cindi;

The thumping is usually caused by a split seam  in the drum, as they are rolled into a round shape, then tack-welded. The rust is just a secondary failure.

Where would the split occur can you see it with just top off or do have to remove front or back panel to see it?

Thank you so much for your help.

With the top off, rotate the drum by hand until the welded seam appears in view. Chances are it has a gap somewhere that causes the clunking sound as it passes over the rollers.

I do not see a visible gap in the seam.  The sound appears to be coming from the front when I rotate the drum by hand.  Could it be flat roller or something like that? Or could the felt be interfering with me seeing the gap?
