What I usually find is a burned area on the back side of the machine control board in the top console. Unplug the machine, remove the 3 screws on the top and pull the control panel forward to lift it off. The control is held by 2 nuts on the back panel, loosen them and slide the board to the left to remove it. Pay attention to the lower edge of the back side of the board to see any signs of burned areas on the green circuit paths. Moisture is the most common cause of this failure.

You can set the machine to a Whites fabric cycle, then select Hot wash...see if the water valve hums as it tries to fill...it may just be clogged with sediment.
