Intermittent keypad or some keypad buttons not working.

Hi Folks,

Various Oven Membrane Keypads

We run into this one quite often so this time I took some pictures and put a page on our website.

The membrane keypad tail that plugs into the control board tends to oxidize with time and the oxidation rate is accelerated with the higher temperatures involved with an oven. This can cause intermittent operation, or some keys not to work, and sometimes a keypad related error code (depending on the model).

The good news is that it's easy to clean this up. I put a brief description with pics at:

I try this every now and then depending on how the cable looks. Sometimes it seems to work and sometimes it works for awhile and then I get called back.

I hate call backs.

You are correct ... no call backs allowed! At least, that's the goal. Your comment reminds me of another fault related to this. I'll get some pictures next time it comes up, but here's a description:

After cleaning up the membrane contacts have a close look at the contacts on the connector on the control board (magnification required ... at least in my case ...). There should be positive tension pushing the contacts together that squeeze the membrane. Sometimes I'll see a small gap between one or two of the contacts in the connector .... maybe metal fatigue ... the membrane is very thin so there needs to be no gap, they should be touching. With a small hook or jeweler's screwdriver you can carefully re-tension the contacts. I need to add this to the procedure ... it's definitely a potential source of problems. Of course in this case, a new keypad won't solve the problem reliably. Thanks for jogging my memory ...
