GE Profile Dryer
« on: September 18, 2009, 05:02:27 PM »
My 5 year old GE Profile dryer isn't drying my clothes properly. I can hear the gas burner on and yet the clothes take a very long time to dry. It seems that the heat comes on sporatically. It takes about 2 hours on high to dry a full load of clothes. Is this something that I can troubleshoot and repair by myself? Sometimes I'll open the door after it has been on for a while and the air inside is cool, sometimes it's hot.

Thanks

Model DPGT750GC0WW

Remove the vent pipe and clean it out. Make sure the vent is not obstructed, birdnest, waspnest, etc.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have already done that. The pipe is clear. I also ran a brush through the filter that is in the front of the dryer. The dryer is in the basement and the exhaust pipe has about a 8' vertical run to the outside.

You may have a problem with either the flame sensor, glowbar ignitor or gas valve coils. The manual in the GE section will explain how to verify these components. Yes,you can DIY.

Thanks all!. I will try to locate a manual. None on this site. Also, I opened the diagrams based on my product number and the descriptions of the parts don't match your suggestions. Thanks for your patience.

While your illustrations may look different, all gas dryers utilize these 3 parts described. The order of operation and function are the same.

Ran a diagnostic check and no problems were found. Should a dryer take 2 hours on high to dry a full load of towels? If that is normal, then I guess I don't have a problem. If I periodically open the door during a cycle, should it always feel warm? Last cycle, I opened the door and I didn't detect any warmth in the tumbler.

Try drying them with that duct work off, you may need duct booster. You using standard 4 inch duct work?

Yes. 4". Should a full load of towels take 2 hours on high to dry? I don't $200 (includes all parts and repair) to have Sears come out and find out that nothings wrong with the dryer.

The rule of thumb is 18 pounds dry weight maximum load. Towels should be dryed under the heading of cotton/high heat as well. How many pounds is your load? Another thing is if too many clothes are in the dryer the air cannot circulate as it should. The filter should be cleared of lint every load.

I have the matching profile washer full capacity. I usually fill the washer up then move to the dryer. Thanks for the tip. I'll try the 18# max rule. I'll keep you posted.
