A/C isn't working HELP!!!! CPKE24-18

I came home and my house was unusually warm. I checked the thermostat, it was 78 degrees but the a/c stays on 74. I checked the unit and it wasn't on. I checked the breaker box and the breaker wasn't tripped. So i put it to off then back to on and cut the a/c back on, the unit tried to come on then cut right back off and the breaker tripped sort of, it wasn't all the way to the off position but it wouldn't go fully to the on position either. I really need advice, it's me and my 2 kids and although i am female, i am not totally incapeable of mechanical work.  Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

It might be the thermistat or the transformer. Does the fan run on manual? If not then the transformer may be bad.

If the  breaker was for the outside unit, then you likely have problems with the compressor or one of the starting components. Unless you have a thorough knowledge of AC systems and how they operate, there is not much you can do without the proper test equipment. Has nothing in particular to do with being female

It could also be a bad breaker causing the issue, although you would need to change the breaker with a new one to see if this was the case. If it is not handling the normal load of a unit starting up and running, then it could very well be the problem. Certainly a $13 breaker is better than a new unit.

Thanks, i appreciate the help. It was the breaker (my brother got ahold of a friend and he came over and checked it out for me. 15.00 was my price for coooollll air . Thanks to all. God Bless.
